cutting-cake-3On 14th December 1990 the United Nations General Assembly voted to establish International Day of Older Persons on 1st October.

PPSEAWA Wellington Area Group held an event “Kaleidoscope of Kultures” in the Johnsonville Community Centre Hall on Saturday, 1st October, 2016, to celebrate this day.

Performers of different cultures performed musical or dance items for older people from a local Aged Care facility and the community.

The event was attended by United Future Party Ohariu MP Peter Dunne, National Party List MP Brett Hudson and Labour Party Mana MP Kris Faafoi.

The MP’s spoke of the contribution older people make to our communities. They also spoke about the work caregivers do caring for older people.

A large (delicious) cake was cut by one of the young performers and a resident from a local facility, then everyone enjoyed afternoon tea together.

Local Girl Guides assisted with serving the afternoon tea.
